—--------------------------------------
The second collaborative curation from Nile Ashton and Lex Nell sees brand new performance concepts from the duo, and features two forward thinking NC electronic musicians - Chris Lock (Asheville) and Ultrabillions (Durham). The night will debut improvisational sets from all artists and feature a live visual installation from Ultrabillions.
Chris Lock and Ultrabillions will be performing together for the first time, showcasing viola and modular and visual synthesis, bringing elements of ambient, noise and electronic dance music to the BOOM Club stage.
Later in the night will be a unique “Front to Front”(F2F) performance between Ashton, Nell and Ultrabillions. The trio comes together with the intention of expanding on the traditional DJ set, adding multiple dimensions for what is anticipated to be a special attendee experience.
Lex Nell & Nile Ashton met in Durham after long runs in the NYC and NOLA scenes respectively. They share a mission of cultivating stronger outlets for underground programming, where selectors can push boundaries, and express themselves in an uncompromised, transcendent way, often in non-traditional environments.
They are thrilled to be working in collaboration with BOOM Club on this event.
BOOM Club is Durham’s electronic music incubator and creative hub. Members and guests can explore synths, recording gear, workshops and events in a welcoming artists community.

Maria somerville, colle
Maria Somerville — Live at BOOM Club
Ethereal but grounded, Maria Somerville weaves dream pop, drone, and folk into something both ancient and futuristic. Singing in English and Irish, her music drifts like radio waves from another world—half-remembered, half-foretold. Expect shimmering synths, spectral vocals, and a slow burn that pulls you under.

chuck johnson, clarice Jensen
Chuck Johnson | Clarice Jensen
Composer/cellist Clarice Jensen and composer/multi-instrumentalist Chuck Johnson team up for a shared bill, performing separately and in a brand new collaboration.
In the spring of 2026 Chuck Johnson will be presenting live renditions of a new work titled Caoineadh. This series of performances and live mixes shared online seeks new pathways into composition and improvisation and draws from DJ techniques, wordless voices, voiceless laments, and pulses suggested by negative spaces.
Performing on cello with effects pedals, Clarice Jensen presents music from her acclaimed new album, In holiday clothing, out of the great darkness. Her fourth full length album, it was released on FatCat/130701 Records in October 2025, and draws abstract inspiration from the Suites of JS Bach, placing the rich sonority of the cello at the fore but carefully treating and layering the timbres to create a "kaleidoscopic, surging cathedral of sound" as described by NPR's Tom Huizenga.
Hand on the Bay is a new collaborative project for Jensen and Johnson. The work is organized by a graphic score that renders the harmonic material of 16 bars of Willie Nelson's Red Headed Stranger over the course of 24 ambient minutes.
